JANUARY

“Happy New Year”

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to preschool! We hope you had a very joyful and peaceful holiday!

In December our preschoolers were very busy preparing for Christmas. They were excited to complete and wrap all of the gifts they created for you. We enjoyed making stockings for Santa to fill, and holiday placemats. We looked forward to sharing a present with a friend, and especially singing for our families. We would again like to thank you for attending our Christmas performance. Our preschoolers did a fantastic job!

The holidays may be over, but not the fun at preschool! As a reminder, our preschoolers were invited to bring in one Show & Tell item on our return from break. In January, our theme will be “winter”. We will talk about snow, ice and cold weather. We will also discuss animals and hibernation. Our shape unit will also begin this month. Our three year olds are encouraged to bring to school an item that is the shape of the day. We will show these as Show & Tell, and if small enough, may put them on a collage. Please see the attached calendar and talk with your child about each theme. This will reinforce ideas discussed in class. We will also be learning our names and how to write them. We will introduce the concept of position and direction, which are called spatial relations. In-out, on-off, over-under, etc. In addition to our shape unit, our four year olds will be introduced to the letters and sounds of the alphabet. Please encourage your child to search for an item that begins with the alphabet letter of the day. Watch the calendar for the letter activities.

Our snack signup, posted on the school bulletin board, is now listed into march. It is quite full, but if you did not get a chance to sign it or get your child’s birthday date, please see us. On your snack day, please provide a snack, drinks, napkins and cups. One large drink is sufficient. There is no need for individual boxes.

With the winter weather here, please remember we follow the Chippewa Valley schedule for school closings. If Chippewa Valley has a snow day, so do we. I will do my best to put a message on our school answering machine on those days as well. For other questionable situations, please call our answering machine.

Feel free to take a complimentary Metro Parent magazine home. They come monthly, are always in our lobby, and have great articles and opportunities. We are looking forward to another fun-filled and rewarding year with all of our Precious Preschoolers!

Class resumes January 4th.
